John Denver was a superstar artist who was a hit by his popular-folk hits, many of which were based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell, New Mexico. He fell in love with Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's anthems for his adopted state have drawn many to Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the curator of this hall of fame, said: "I don't believe there anyone else who has as much a connection to Colorado like John Denver." Denver was a member of the Hall of Fame as its first member in 2011. He is now the symbol of Colorado to people around the world. When I travel, you are likely to meet people from opposite sides of the planet. For example people from New Zealand. And when someone asks you if you're Colorado-based, Colorado you will get "Oh John Denver!" Brown declared. Denver's debut Top 10 hit as a solo artist following a brief career performing in small folk bands comprised of Take Me Home Country Roads composed by Bill Danoff. Danoff wrote the song with Johnny Cash in mind but after Denver heard an early version it was clear that the track could become an instant hit. The singer recorded the song just a few days later after performing it to crowds of enthusiastic fans in Washington D.C.
